About Us

Leicester Writers’ Club is a community of writers based in and around Leicester. Many club members are published; all are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in their writing.

The club was founded over 60 years ago, and its many members write within a wide range of genres. We have writers of poetry, novels, short stories, children’s fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, and several award-winning bloggers.

The main purpose of the club is to provide a supportive environment for members to critique work-in-progress, ask for and pass on tips and advice, share the occasional failure, and celebrate the many successes. The club also provides access to information on writing competitions, writing courses, possible markets, and opportunities to read and/or promote work at public events. Find out more about membership on our Membership Page.

In addition to the Thursday club nights and speaker evenings, Leicester Writers’ Club organises social events for its members, such as the summer Garden party, and the winter Annual Awards Dinner where we celebrate members’ achievements with awards in various writing categories, including one for fortitude!

There is a residential weekend in May that is both social and informative, at an atmospheric old manor house in the Cotswolds. This has proved so popular that we also run day workshops on a Saturday for those who can’t get away for an entire weekend, or who just can’t get enough.

Leicester Writers’ Club runs a very active e-mail forum, is on Facebook and twitter @leicwritersclub.

If you would like to keep up with happenings or be informed of future events, p lease click the ‘Like’ button at the bottom to follow this site.

And again, if you have any questions regarding membership, or any other writing-related-thing, please leave your details on our Contact Us page.

About me…

I am a skilled Arts Project Manager with over 18 years experience in managing events, performances and projects across Leicester and Leicestershire. In 2013 I refocused my career to concentrate on my passion for writing and set up Write Mindful.

I deliver writing for well-being workshops as well as community writing projects across the county. I have delivered work across a wide variety of setting including mental health wards, older persons wards and for carers. I am in my third year of delivery of Writing for Wellbeing and Mental Health sessions funded by Time for Change.

In June 2017 I managed the Air Raid Shelter Stories HLF funded project at Granby Primary School. Pupils at the school recorded the memories of former pupils who attended Granby during World War II. You can find out more here.

My WIP is a series of children’s books for 7-12 year olds and I’m currently in the middle of a huge rewrite! I also scribble short stories & submit to competitions – having had one published locally in Leicester as part of an anthology for KLIC – 10 stories 10 writers. I also write for magazines.

I am a member of Lapidus, an article published on why I write was featured in their Spring Journal 2018.

When i’m not scribbling in my journal or tapping away at my keyboard you can find me reading or procrastinating on facebook or instagram. I’m also a proud mum of one beautiful & bonkers 10 year old girl .
